Charla Club · Version of October 15, 2026
Cookies
A cookie is a small file the site leaves in your browser so it can recognize it on the next visit. Here we explain every one Charla Club uses, and everything else it stores in your browser or on your phone. This version is for people who use Charla Club from the United States and Puerto Rico.
First of all
Charla Club only uses strictly necessary cookies and storage: what is needed for you to sign in, for the sign-up to follow its course and to remember what you yourself have chosen on this device. It uses no advertising cookies, no measurement cookies, no social network cookies and none from any third party that follows you around the internet. That is why there is no cookie banner when you arrive: there is nothing to accept or refuse. None of this storage is sold or shared with anyone, it is not used to track you across other sites or apps, and it builds no profile of you. If your browser sends the Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a valid request to opt out of sale and sharing; as we do neither, nothing changes for you.
The site's cookies
- The session, set by Clerk, our sign-in provider: cookies starting with "__session" and "__client". They say it is you while you are inside. They last as long as the session, which can be long so you do not have to ask for a code again; they are deleted when you sign out from "Your account".
- The sign-up ("__Host-wl_alta"): while you sign up, it remembers that the email code was valid and which step you are on. It lasts a few minutes and is deleted when you finish.
- Where to return to ("__Host-wl_invitacion", "__Host-wl_quedada", "__Host-wl_grupo", "__Host-wl_sala_compartida", "__Host-wl_enlace_de_amigo"): if you open an invitation, a hangout, a group, a shared room or an "Invite a friend" link without an account and start signing up, they remember which one to return to when you finish, or which invitation you were accepting. They last a few hours and are deleted when used.
All of them belong to charlaclub.com (except Clerk's, which Clerk sets on our domain), travel encrypted, cannot be read by any other website and none carries anything that identifies you outside Charla Club.
Browser storage
Besides cookies, the website keeps in your browser's local storage, which travels to no server:
- that you have already seen the welcome screen and with which text ("charla.acogida"), so as not to repeat it if the text has not changed;
- the theme you chose, light or dark ("charla.tema");
- a random key for this device ("charla.aparato"), used so that a room belongs to one device at a time; it does not identify your browser outside Charla Club;
- whom you last invited from a hangout ("charla.invitar.alcance"), to offer you the same next time.
They are removed when you clear the site's data in your browser, with no consequence: they are created again next time.
The Android app
The app uses no cookies. It stores on the phone your session, the language, that you have seen the welcome screen, the device key and, if you ask for them, the captions model. All of it is removed when you uninstall it or sign out from "Your account". The entry-code reader, a Google library (ML Kit) inside the app, also keeps a randomly generated installation identifier which, according to Google, is not intended to identify a person or a phone, and which goes with the app when you uninstall it; what it sends to Google is in what we do with your data. The app has no advertising library and no analytics library.
Google's map
If the hangouts map shown is Google's, when you open it your browser or phone loads the map from Google's servers, and Google may set its own cookies or storage, under its own policy. That happens only on screens with a map, and you can use hangouts without opening it. What Google receives is in what we do with your data.
"Do Not Track" and Global Privacy Control
We do not track you, so a "Do Not Track" setting changes nothing: there is nothing to turn off. We do read the Global Privacy Control signal and treat it as an opt-out of sale and sharing, as said above.
How to remove them
You can delete the site's cookies and storage from your browser's settings, and most browsers let you block them. Without the session and sign-up cookies you cannot sign in or sign up; the others only mean you have to choose again.
More
What we do with the data that does reach our server is in what we do with your data. If this list changes, we publish a new version with its date.
